Jurgen Klopp may set a dangerous precedent which could DESTROY the FA Cup if he skips Liverpools fourth-round replay against Shrewsbury Town.
Thats the opinion of talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan, who also believes contrary to popular opinion the German is as selfish as every other manager in football and would leave Anfield as soon as a better opportunity comes along.
The former Crystal Palace owner has slammed Klopp for his plans to take a break with his senior players instead of being at Anfield for the FA Cup replay.
Klopp plans to stay away from the fourth-round replay with Shrewsbury on February 4
The manager has confirmed he and his first-team will observe the Premier League winter break and rest up for two full weeks, between this Saturday’s clash vs Southampton and their visit to Norwich on February 15.
It means the club will instead send a young Reds team led by Under-23s coach Neil Critchley to Anfield to take on League One Shrewsbury on February 4.
The same thing happened in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals against Aston Villa, who beat the youngest Liverpool team in history 5-0 at Villa Park, as Klopp took his senior players to Qatar to win the Club World Cup.
Many accepted that decision it was impossible for a full-strength team to play in both competitions simultaneously but Klopp has faced a backlash for sticking two fingers up at the FA Cup this time around.
Jordan, for one, is not surprised by the nature of the Liverpool managers decision, but he does believe it could have dangerous consequences for the future of the competition as other coaches may want to follow suit.
Liverpool’s youngsters will get another chance to prove themselves against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup, but Jurgen Klopp is not planning on being there
Believe me, as sure as day follows night, as soon as a better opportunity than Liverpool comes along for him, hell be off thats what football managers do, Jordan said on Tuesdays White and Sawyer show.
That doesnt alter the fact he is a world-class, absolute top drawer, elite amongst the elite football manager and has done an absolutely mercurial job at Liverpool by taking them on from where Brendan Rodgers took them…
But this is not right!
You knew Liverpool had to play in the FA Cup and you can leave the players out, thats fine – but youve got to be there mate!
Hes in no way wrong saying to the players, a break is a break and I want you to have it, but that doesnt excuse him from being in the dugout.
Danny Murphy is not happy with Jurgen Klopp’s decision to miss Liverpool’s FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury
You step out of that and you start to bring anarchy. Liverpool Football Club in all its formations are under his direction as the public face and you have to use your influence properly.
He could have an influence on the blueprint of this country because he is in an influential position.
Managers coming out of a dugout? What next?
The rumbles start, then its the insidious seed planting of, we dont want to do this, we dont want to do that, and the next thing you know, there will be no FA Cup!
