Director Matt Reeves revealed that The Batman movie has begun filming with a picture from the set. The caption reads #DayOne #TheBatman and Reeves tagged Greg Fraser, the films director of photography.
The tweeted image shows a slate with the movie title and date, and its resting in a brown leather chair, which certainly conjures imagery of stately Wayne Manor. Could the first day of shooting feature a scene with Robert Pattinsons Bruce Wayne inside his family estate? Given that this movie is essentially a reboot, it wouldnt surprise anyone if they started from the beginning in a familiar location.
Update: After giving this some thought, we came up with a theory as to why Reeves decided to show this seemingly innocuous brown leather chair. In 1939’s Detective Comics #33, Bruce Wayne is sitting in a brown chair when a bat flies into his window and inspires him to become Batman. He famously says, “I shall become a bat!” That scene has gone on to be recreated in Year One and other comics over the years, becoming an iconic origin moment for the character that we’ve yet to see on screen. This set photo could be a hint that we’ll finally see it in The Batman.
Theres been much chatter about The Batman as of late. Penguin/Oz Cobblepot actor Colin Ferrel praised Reeves script, calling it “a really, really beautiful, dark, moving script, really gorgeous.” Meanwhile, Catwoman actress Zoe Kravitz shared what most excites her about her feline character.
Joining Pattinsons Caped Crusader in the cast of The Batman is Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Gotham City mobster Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as an unknown character, and Jayme Lawson as mystery character Bella.
