Former hero Claudio Marchisio has defended Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri and claims the former Napoli tactician “was the right choice” at Allianz Stadium.
The Old Lady have gone through an inconsistent period and the coach has received criticism for his approach in Turin, but the Bianconeri are still top of the league, in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia and prepare to face Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League this month.
The former midfielder Marchisio has jumped to defend the Tuscan coach and said his experience from England has come “in handy” in his new job.
“I think Sarri was the right choice for Juventus,” he told DAZN. “Obviously, it takes time. The Bianconeri came from two great winning cycles under [Antonio] Conte and [Massimiliano] Allegri.
“Maurizio can count on a great squad and came from playing beautiful football with Napoli to win a big trophy in Europe with Chelsea, despite the difficulties he suffered. His experience with the Blues has also come in handy in Turin.”
Juventus are currently in a Scudetto battle with both Lazio and Inter and sit one point above the Biancoceleste ahead of their fixture against SPAL in Ferrara on Saturday.
