Leonardo Bonucci warned Roma gave Juventus a scare in the Coppa Italia quarter-final. “The moment we let the tempo drop, we struggle.”
The job was done by half-time thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo angled drive, Rodrigo Bentancur toe-poke and Leonardo Bonucci header, despite the consolation deflected Cengiz Under strike.
“The moment we let the tempo drop, we start to struggle,” Bonucci told Rai Sport after the 3-1 victory.
“Roma play very attacking football and the moment we stopped really diving on to the second balls, they forced us to defend deep around our penalty area.
“It was a good second half, as we showed that we were able to suffer under pressure and controlled the situation. There are 25 great players here and we need everyone to be ready when called upon so that the team can keep going to the end of the season.”
Juve are four points clear at the top of the Serie A table and through to the Coppa Italia semi-final against either Milan or Torino, not to mention the Champions League Round of 16.
“It’s just four points, we don’t feel remotely comfortable. We’ve got to work and sacrifice ourselves to the last minute in every game, as we have three targets and want to go all the way.”
