Fantasy owners should use these rankings as a basis for player/team evaluation in waiver-wire adds, drops and DFS streaming options. Factors taken into account include positional depth, power-play, lineup and injury trends, team security and overall upside for the rest of the 2019-20 season in standard leagues.
1. Tampa Bay Lightning (+2)NOTE
: Elite right wing Nikita Kucherov is making up for his slow start with four straight multipoint games with four goals and four assists over the span. Starter Andrei Vasilevskiy has been the best goalie in fantasy recently, going 11-0-1 with a .942 save percentage and two shutouts in his past 12 games.
2. Toronto Maple Leafs (SAME)
3. Washington Capitals (-2)
4. Boston Bruins (SAME)
5. Pittsburgh Penguins (SAME)NOTE
: Elite center Sidney Crosby has eight points (three goals, five assists) in five games since returning from a core muscle injury. Streaming option Jared McCann has lost value since Crosby’s return (no points in his past four games) but is worth hanging onto in some leagues for the high-end exposure at even strength. Backup goalie Matt Murray is making a push for playing time again with five straight wins.
6. Colorado Avalanche (SAME)
7. Dallas Stars (+1)
8. Vegas Golden Knights (+1)
9. Florida Panthers (+1)
10. St. Louis Blues (+1)
11. Carolina Hurricanes (-4)NOTE
: The long-term injury to elite defenseman Dougie Hamilton hurts the Hurricanes’ overall fantasy outlook. Defenseman Jaccob Slavin has one assist in the past six games but is skating on the top pair and first power-play unit, making him worth adding in standard leagues. Veteran wing Justin Williams, who has two goals and eight shots on goal over his first two games back, is worth streaming in deep leagues.
12. Vancouver Canucks (+1)NOTE
: Wing Jake Virtanen has six points (two goals, four assists) in his past four games skating on a line with No. 1 center Elias Pettersson and wing J.T. Miller. Virtanen is worth rostering in most formats and will likely maintain fantasy value if he keeps his lineup placement over teammate Brock Boeser. Goalie Jacob Markstrom has been among the most valuable at the position lately, going 10-2-0 with a .921 save percentage over the past 12 games.
13. Calgary Flames (+4)NOTE
: Defenseman Mark Giordano is quietly improving with three assists and 12 SOG in his past three games. The Flames will have a higher ceiling in fantasy if top forwards Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau start to produce at a higher level.
14. Arizona Coyotes (SAME)
15. Edmonton Oilers (+1)NOTE
: Rookie right wing Kailer Yamamoto is entering must-add territory with seven points (four goals, three assists) in nine games since being recalled from the American Hockey League. He’s skating on the second line with valuable forwards Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
16. New York Rangers (-4)
17. Winnipeg Jets (-2)
18. Montreal Canadiens (SAME)
19. Nashville Predators (+1)NOTE
: Wing Mikael Granlund is a trendy waiver-wire add with three goals in his past five games skating on a line with Matt Duchene and Ryan Johansen. The Predators could be a sneaky team down the stretch, especially if they get more consistent goaltending from Juuse Saros and/or veteran Pekka Rinne.
20. Chicago Blackhawks (+1)NOTE
: Defenseman Erik Gustafsson has three straight multipoint games with one goal and five assists over the span. Rookie wing Dominik Kubalik has 10 goals in his past nine games skating on a line with Jonathan Toews and Drake Caggiula.
21. Columbus Blue Jackets (+1)
22. Philadelphia Flyers (-3)
23. New York Islanders (+3)NOTE
: Backup goalie Thomas Greiss rejoined NHL.com’s top 25 rankings at the position after going 3-0-1 with a .945 save percentage in his past five games.
24. San Jose Sharks (-1)NOTE
: Forward Barclay Goodrow could be worth adding in deeper leagues if he keeps his spot on the top line with Evander Kane and Timo Meier in place of the injured Tomas Hertl, who is out for the season with a torn ACL and MCL.
25. New Jersey Devils (-1)
26. Buffalo Sabres (-1)
27. Los Angeles Kings (+2)NOTE
: Forward Alex Iafallo is worth adding in most formats with five goals in his past four games and 15 points (nine goals, six assists) over his past 15 games skating on the top line with valuable center Anze Kopitar.
28. Ottawa Senators (-1)
29. Detroit Red Wings (+2)NOTE
: Rookie wing Filip Zadina is worth monitoring with four points (three goals, one assist) and 12 SOG in his past four games skating on the top line with Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi.
30. Anaheim Ducks (SAME)
31. Minnesota Wild (-3)
