Phantasy Star Online 2 is finally coming stateside, and Sega will give fans a brief taste of the online role-playing game the weekend of Feb. 7 with a closed beta test.
That beta test will be available on Xbox One, starting Friday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. PST, and will wrap up on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 12 a.m. PST. The closed beta for Phantasy Star Online 2 will feature fully localized English-language text and voices, Sega said. And players who participated in the beta will have their progress carry over to the full game, which is slated to launch on Xbox One in spring 2020. (A Windows PC version is coming later.)
Closed beta testers will get some cosmetic and consumable items for logging in, and daily rewards for playing. They can also take part in Urgent Quests, 30-minute-long events set in specific locations, at the following dates and times (in PST):
- 8 8:30 p.m. Cradle of Darkness
- 10 10:30 p.m. Giant Automata: The Awakening
- 7 7:30 a.m. – Cradle of Darkness
- 1 1:30 p.m. – Giant Automata: The Awakening
- 5 5:30 p.m. – Cradle of Darkness
- 8:30 9 p.m. – The Raging Obsidian Arm
- 9 9:30 p.m. – Elder of the Unfathomable Abyss
Beta testers who complete multiple quests will earn cosmetic and consumable rewards, such as a Mag Dreamcast evolution device. They can also view an in-game concert on Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. PST, and receive post-concert buffs.

Sega originally released Phantasy Star Online 2 on PC in Japan in 2012, and later ported the game to mobile platforms, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. The game was demoed at North American events, but Sega has never localized the game until now.
