The NSW Teachers Federation has demanded that school operations end from Monday, and that staff be allowed to work from home.
Schools should only have minimum staffing to support essential frontline services workers who cannot care for their children during the crisis, the union’s president, Angelo Gavrielatos, said in a statement.

The federation will meet to discuss the government’s response on Thursday, and to consider further action. It is seeking an urgent meeting with the Premier.
“Normal school operations must end to put the health and safety of students and staff first,” Mr Gavrielatos said.
